Espen Mehlum has 20 years of experience in the energy sector, and has been with the World Economic Forum since 2006. From 2000-2004, he was an advisor in the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy and from 2004-2006, he served as Norway’s Energy Advisor to the International Energy Agency (IEA). He then joined the World Economic Forum to lead the energy utility industry agenda and projects. From 2011 he served as Head of Knowledge Management of Energy Industries and both led projects, the energy agenda at World Economic Forum events, developed the Global Energy Performance Index and managed the Global Agenda Council on Decarbonizing Energy as well as energy country studies and partnerships. In his current role, Espen is deputy head of Shaping the Future of Energy and Materials Platform, which is the World Economic Forum’s main cross-industry activity on energy. In this capacity, he also leads the work on Clean Energy and Innovation and manages the Global Future Council on Energy and leads the energy agenda for many World Economic Forum summits. Espen holds a Master of Science degree in Economics from the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration (NHH) and is a graduate of the World Economic Forum Global Leadership Fellows program. He is a Member of the Advisory Board of the IESE MBA Energy Club.
