Benjamin Sporton became Chief Executive of the newly formed Global Cement and Concrete Association in October 2018. As Chief Executive benjamin has led the growth of an organisation established to drive innovative and sustainable construction and to enhance the cement and concrete industry’s contribution to a variety of global social and developmental challenges. He has spoken at a range of international forums including at the recent United Nations Climate Action Summit.
Prior to joining the GCCA Benjamin spent eight years at the World Coal Association serving as Policy Director and Deputy CEO, before becoming Chief Executive – a role that he held for almost four years.
As WCA Chief Executive Benjamin led a reinvigorated advocacy agenda, established the WCA as a thought leader on energy and climate issues and launched strategic partnerships with several international organisations. During this time, he regularly commented on climate and energy issues in the international media.
Benjamin has been a member of the International Advisory Committee to the Energy & Environment Foundation of India, the National Coal Council of the United States, and the Coal Industry Advisory Board to the International Energy Agency.
He holds an honours degree in politics from the University of Adelaide and has also studied at the University of Buenos Aires and the Australian Institute of Management.
